Now that training camp is over - farewell, Hofstra - the Jets have shifted into their regular-season mode. What that means is this: Practices are closed to the public, open to the media. However, there’s a very small window for us to watch practice. Today, it was 45 minutes. Presumably, it will remain that way for the remainder of the season. In 45 minutes, we see stretching, jogging, calisthenics, special-teams drills and a couple of positional drills. In other words, no 7-on-7 and no 11-on-11 drills. It stinks, but such is life in the paranoid NFL.
On a regular-season schedule, it means the locker room is open to the media, which is a good thing. During training camp, we interviewed players coming off the field after practice, which isn’t ideal. They’re sweaty, tired and hot, looking forward to getting into the air conditioning.
