Jets wrap up '08 draft with Arkansas tackle

The 2008 draft is in the books, folks. With their seventh-round pick (No. 211), the Jets selected one of Darren McFadden’s bodyguards from Arkansas - RT Nate Garner. At 6-6, 334, Garner is only a few Big Mac meals away from veteran NT Kris Jenkins. (Well, okay, more than just a few.) Garner is a classic developmental prospect. He started only one season at Arkansas, but he showed some promise late in the year. He’ll probably tell you that, if it weren’t for him, McFadden wouldn’t have gained close to 1,800 yards. Garner is - how can I put this delicately? - slow as molasses. I think Pelzman from the Record can outrun him in the 40. But, hey, it’s hard to find quality offensive tackles, so sometimes you have a take a flier on a guy like this. I’ll be back later to summarize the weekend’s festivities. [link]
