John Danks, Joe Crede lead White Sox to first victory

CLEVELAND John Danks didnt allow a hit until Casey Blake singled leading off the sixth inning and Joe Crede hit a tiebreaking home run off Jake Westbrook in the eighth to lead the White Sox over the Cleveland Indians 2-1 today. Cleveland scored 17 runs in winning the first two games of opening series but managed two hits against four pitchers.

Tribe pitcher Fausto Carmona was sharp as ever, striking out 4 and inducing 3 double plays in his 7 innings of work. One fly ball left the infield, and that was caught. The White Sox scored one run off young Fausto, who was simply dominating. The offense wasn’t so bad either.Could Garko Break Out The Catchers Gear?

Though Ryan Garko suits up at first base for the Tribe, it is no secret that the 27-year old slugger was drafted as a catcher out of Stanford, and even donned the gear in the minor leagues. Given the hamstring injury to Victor Martinez, Garko got to see a little action behind the plate yesterday.We’re Going Streaking!

Jake Westbrook was the hottest Indians’ pitcher this spring. The good news for Westbrook is that it carried over to his first start against the White Sox for this afternoon’s 12:00 game. The bad news is that the Tribe offense was shut down by a better performance from starter John Danks, who led the Pale Hose to a 2-1 victory. Westbrook did everything he could to win the game....
