Even though the Yankees had a very good night Wednesday, between Mike Mussina getting his ninth victory, and Derek Jeter passing Mickey Mantle for third place on the all-time Yankee hit list, the big Bomber story of the day is a negative one.
Johnny Damon griped to the News’ John Harper about the Yankees moving Joba Chamberlain into the starting rotation, implying that the Yanks are messing with a good thing:
“I remember the teams the Yankees won (championships) with, if they were winning after five innings, it was pretty much game over. We kind of felt that way this year. If we were winning after six, we had (Kyle) Farnsworth in the seventh, Joba in the eighth, and Mariano in the ninth - we thought it was game over.
“Now, instead, we’re trying to find out who’s best suited for that eighth-inning role.”
Is there any Yankee fan out there who thinks it’s “Game Over” with Kyle Farnsworth coming into the game? Well, actually, maybe ...
