Kansas State Basketball: Not Your Typical Wildcats

 
Upon the close of the first day of games in this year's NCAA Tournament, I see that only one team of Wildcats are still in. Not the Arizona Wildcats or the Kentucky Wildcats—that would be the Kansas State Wildcats. After watching the games today, I realized where college basketball is headed: Big time, blue chip prospects are going to lesser-named schools to avoid being overlooked and swallowed up by a "program." Schools like USC and Kansas State are hardly known for their basketball prowess, but when players like Michael Beasley and O.J. Mayo sign scholarships to play for their teams, they immediately become contenders. Both of these guys are obviously one and done type players, so they go to schools where they know that they will be "the man" and put up the numbers to be top lottery picks come this year's NBA draft. First day of tournament: Boo-rrring!

The first day of the NCAA Tournament is done, and it was … well, it was boring. There were 16 games, and the favorites won 14 of the 16. The one "upset" was a No. 11 seed beating a No. 6 seed - but the No. 11 was a team from the Big 12 (Kansas State). The other "upset" was a No. 9 seed beating a No. 8 seed - and the No. 9 was another Big 12 team (Texas A&M).
