Kings set to release Tyronn Lue
The Sacramento Kings today will release point guard Tyronn Lue, clearing the way for Lue to possibly sign with the Knicks, the Daily News has learned.
Lue’s buyout will be finalized later this afternoon, which would allow him to sign with a team and be on their playoff roster. The Knicks considered acquiring Lue before the trading deadline but could not get a deal done. Isiah Thomas has said the Knicks need a point guard with Stephon Marbury out for the remainder of the season following ankle surgery.
In order for the Knicks to sign Lue, they would have to release a player. The two most likely candidates are veteran guard Fred Jones, who is in the final year of his contract, and second-year forward Randolph Morris, who has appeared in just two games this season.
Lue was traded two weeks ago to Sacramento from Atlanta in the deal for Mike Libby.
