The Knicks early season MVP is Matt Winick, the NBA’s legendary scheduling czar who is the only person alive that can tell you off the top of his head what city the Knicks, Grizzlies, Lakers and Bucks will be playing in on March 5. It’s almost scary.
Of course, Winick only schedules the games, he doesn’t play them. He has no way of knowing that Gilbert Arenas and Deron Williams would be hurt and he couldn’t possibly know that Oklahoma City wouldn’t play defense. (Okay, he probably had a strong feeling that OKC couldn’t guard anyone.)
The point is the Knicks early season schedule has been favorable and more importantly the Knicks have taken advantage of their good fortune. They’ve already beaten three lottery teams at home; Miami, Charlotte and Oklahoma City. The Jazz without Williams were no match and it was almost embarrassing how bad the Wizards played without Arenas.
