I called into my office yesterday to pitch a story idea regarding tonight’s Nets-Knicks matchup at the Meadowlands and here’s the response I got from the voice on the other end: “No one cares!”
They weren’t talking about my story idea but about the game (though I should point out that the story didn’t make it in).
Unfortunately, they were right. There seems to be very little - if any - buzz surrounding the game. The Knicks are bad and the Nets are the Nets.
But even though this one does not count as a must-win for the Nets, and won’t likely put much of a dent in their playoff aspirations if they lose, they cannot afford to drop it - not if they want to be taken seriously.
Off to a good start, a great one considering their pre-season expectations, the Nets must take another step toward proving they can beat the beatable teams on a consistent basis. That’s something that all playoff teams in every sport do - win the games they are supposed ...
