A group of former Knicks joined Jeff Van Gundy to pose for pictures late Friday night after LeBron James dismantled Mike D’Antoni’s team.
Standing at center court, Larry Johnson, Allan Houston, John Starks, Mark Jackson, Anthony Mason, Herb Williams and Charles Smith all smiled for the cameras. Charles Oakley, as lean and mean as ever, was also in the building but wasn’t in the mood for a photo-op.
Still, it was one of those rare occasions when some of the organization’s most memorable and admired stars were back together and it was encouraging that the organization acknowledged them during the game. For Van Gundy, it was his first time back in a non-coaching role since he resigned from the Knicks nearly eight years ago.
When it was suggested that the old coach could take the eight retired Knicks and beat today’s team, one of the players replied: “Yeah, but we’d only win by about seven.”
