Lester tunes up before leaving for Japan

In his final Florida tuneup before the regular season, left-hander Jon Lester, the lone member of the Red Sox's traveling roster who did not fly with the team to Japan on Wednesday, pitched five innings of a Double-A instrasquad game at the Minor League complex.

If you need any further proof that we’re nearly at Opening Day, all you had to do was read the news yesterday surrounding Major League Baseball. If it wasn’t real news (Red Sox threatening to boycott their trip to Japan), it was stretching news into something more than it may be (collusion and Barry Bonds). The Red Sox landed early Friday morning in Japan (11:15 AM ET Thursday) and were greeted by throngs of reporters.
