Lions wins first Ivy baseball title since '77

 
While looking into Joe Jones’ decision to stay on as head basketball coach at Columbia, we discovered he actually drove up to Hanover, N.H., yesterday just to watch the Lions’ baseball team win its first Ivy title since 1977. Columbia went 15-5 in league play and defeated Dartmouth in a best-of-three series for the championship. Congrats go out to 6-7 senior John Baumann, a starting forward and All-Met selection on Jones’ basketball team and a pitcher on the baseball team, who finished with a 3-1 record and a 3.12 ERA in Ivy play. Baumann just won the Connie S. Maniatty Award at Columbia, presented annually to the top male and female senior student-athlete. The award was presented Tuesday, but Baumann missed the presentation because of the games at Dartmouth. Outfielder Noah Cooper won the Ivy League batting title, hitting .507.
