The Royals' pitcher throws his second complete game and improves to 3-0 in a 5-1 victory that beats a starter returning from Tommy John surgery.

* at Kansas City 5, Minnesota 1: Brian Bannister (3-0) threw his second career complete game and outpitched Francisco Liriano, who was making his first start since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery 17 months ago. Liriano gave up six hits, walked five and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings. He threw 90 pitches, 51 for strikes.
