Local ads are no easy task

Sure, Lance Berkman is baseball’s hottest hitter and hit his 15th homer Thursday as the Astros beat the Giants to move into second place in the NL Central, but can he do a local ad? Glenn Davis, the Astros’ first baseman of my youth, sure could. He’s the guy with the mustache, along with second baseman Bill Doran, in this 1985 commercial: The cheesy local ad really is a lost art in baseball. The last one I remember around here was Tim Raines, when he was with the Yankees, for a Mercedes dealership. Couldn’t find that one on YouTube, but there is this brilliant Phil Rizzuto ad for The Money Store. [link]
