Magic Close but Can't Close

Close, Mr. Lee, but no cigar. (Photo by Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty Images) Why is it that guys with my last name are always on the negative side of memorable finishes of big games? That's the thought that went through my mind shortly after Courtney Lee (no relation to me) missed that underhand layup with time expiring at the end of regulation in Game 2 on Sunday night. Lee had a difficult angle after catching Hedo Turkoglu's pass, and hardly any time to get a shot off -- 0.6 seconds -- but as Kobe Bryant said afterward, it was a brilliant play called by Orlando Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy. "He missed it," Van Gundy said afterward. "I don't know else to say. Hedo made a great pass, and we missed it." Seeing Lee resting his hands on his head made me think back to the 2003 NCAA (link)
