Actually, the M's only had to lose two of their final three games at home to the Oakland Athletics last September 26-28, and they would have clinched the Stephen Strasburg Sweepstakes. Instead, the Washington Nationals fell to the occasion by losing nine of their last 10. The Nationals finished with 102 losses; the Mariners, after sweeping Oakland, remained with 101.
