Marlins-Cardinals: Redbirds' Win Proves Futile in Diminishing Postseason Hopes

 
Don't try to tell Cardinals' slugger Albert Pujols that St. Louis' chances of making the playoffs are all but gone. El Hombre heavily contributed to the 5-3 Redbirds victory over the Marlins on Saturday. Batting 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk, Pujols' recent hot streak is a sight for sore eyes for the Cardinals' faithful. Since August 15, Pujols has gone 32-for-69 with seven home runs, 10 doubles, 18 RBI, 12 walks, and an insane .913 slugging percentage. That's what I call scorching. Yadier Molina contributed to the action as well with his sixth inning RBI to score the go-ahead run against the Marlins. Felipe Lopez continued to contribute offensive numbers of his own as his pair of RBI helped make the difference. All of this offense had come on the shoulders of wasted pitching efforts, as the Cardinals bullpen continually managed to blow game after game.
