Mattingly's place on ballot deserved

 
A Yankees icon since his career began in the early 1980s, Don Mattingly is on the Hall of Fame ballot for the eighth year, hoping to reach Cooperstown on the strength of a pinstriped tenure that included six All-Star Game appearances and nine Gold Glove Awards. [link]
