In the FORT WORTH STAR TELEGRAM, Jan Hubbard writes "the Mavericks began their new five-game plan Monday night and Avery Johnson said the goals were much the same as the first five. Johnson said there had been too much emphasispresumably by fans, media and playerson the relative importance of the 82-game season. The Mavericks spent all last season saying nothing mattered until the playoffs and because of the first-round loss to Golden State, Johnson wanted to break the season down in smaller increments. Johnson said the goals in five-game sets are not necessarily five victories, although obviously that would be the ideal."
