Mets beat Cards to hold NL East lead

A day after grabbing first place from the Phillies, the Mets started their run with the National League East mantle, keeping distance between themselves and their divisional counterparts with a 7-2 win over the Cardinals on Friday.

The New York Mets (56-47) won their third straight game and 14 of their last 17, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 at Shea Stadium. The Mets also increased their lead in the National League East to two games as the Atlanta Braves topped the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
