Mets don't lose their heads

 
It was a good weekend - the Mets took two of three from the Reds, got good starting pitching in every game, scored 21 runs, saw Carlos Beltran finally start producing with eight RBI and managed to go through the lineup every time in the correct order. Which is more than the Reds can say. In the ninth inning of Sunday’s game, the Reds’ David Ross came to bat when Corey Patterson should have been batting. Once Ross flied out, Willie Randolph came out to inform the umpires of the Reds’ mistake. At which point, Met announcer Gary Cohen promptly lit into Randolph in a way I have hardly heard from the Mets’ booth. Cohen’s point was that Randolph should have waited until one of the Reds got a hit while batting out of order, in which case the hit would have been ruled an out. Instead, all Randolph’s complaint achieved was the out being charged to Patterson instead of Ross, and Pedro Feliciano being forced to wait around on the mound for ten minutes. Bily Martin was ...
