Mets finding themselves in slam slump

They were heady times for the Mets. "Grand" might be a more apropos modifier. They led the National League East by so great a margin, the combined leads of the other five division leaders barely exceeded the Mets' -- 12 1/2 to 12 games. They just had won seven of 10 games, outscoring their opponents by 20 runs.
