The Wilpon Bowl: Fred Wilpon could not be happier that yesterday's meaningless contest between his alma motter, the University of Michigan, and his Mets ended in a 4-4 tie. Met fans probably could be happier, but most would reference the word “meaningless” in the prior sentence. For those that care for the details, David Wright and Cuban defector Michael Abreu each had two-run homers for the not-so-Amazins, while Jose Reyes, Angel Pagan, Fernando Martinez and Ruben Gotay were the only other Mets to get hits against the collegiate pitchers. Multiple pitchers worked, including young Eddie Kunz, who gave up two hits, but also recorded two strikeouts. Jason Vargas, Aaron Heilman, and non-roster invitee Ryan Cullen all gave up runs for New York. Mets-Tigers: Today, Mike Pelfrey tossed two scorelss innings against the Detriot Tigers in Lakeland, Florida.
