Mets' Wright homers off Michigan starter

David Wright left an impression on Michigan starter Eric Katzman yesterday when he launched the first pitch to him into the palm trees far beyond the leftfield wall for a two-run homer in the first inning. When jokingly told that he didn't even take a pitch to time Katzman, Wright smiled and said, "I got lucky." Asked if he still had some college eligibility left, the 25-year-old Wright said, "Not once you sign a contract. I've got it for basketball and football, though." Wright was disappointed to learn, however, that the homer doesn't count in the official Grapefruit League statistics. [link]
