In what seemed to be the Miami Heat organization waiting upon Wade to go forth and agree to signing a contract extension, has turned out to be the total opposite.
According to the Florida Sun-Sentinel:
"'I'm there. Why not fast-track this thing anyway while I'm there and let's not give it a chance to get to 2010?' said Wade, who can extend his contract starting July 12, or can opt out and become a free agent following next season.
"'I'm in my prime right now, playing the best basketball I've ever played, and I feel as good as I ever felt. So let's not wait. Let's do it now if we can do it. So it's not about me signing a contract.'"
Clearly, Wade looks ready to sign an extension whenever the paper and pen is handed to him.
On the other hand, Pat Riley stated that the Miami Heat cannot make any major moves without their superstar signing a contract extension. Since Wade has taken his approach to the situation, it will now be up to Riley to decide what to do.
