Mike Mussina Wins 20: Yankees Beat Red Sox in First of Twin Bill
The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
Mike Mussina took the ball for the Yankees. He worked six strong innings, gave up no runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out three.
Mussina was opposed by Daisuke Matsuzaka. Matsuzaka lasted four innings, gave up three earned runs on four hits, walked two, and knocked down five.
The Yankees put up three runs in the top of the fourth. Xavier Nady wrapped a homer around the Pesky Pole in right field—his 25th homer of the year—to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
Boston finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth with two runs and RBI from Chris Carter and Jacoby Ellsbury. The Sox then trailed 3-2.
