MLB Boston Red Sox: Red Sox Interested In Andy Pettitte

The Boston Globe is reporting that the southpaw is one of several options Boston is exploring to fill an opening in their starting rotation. Pettitte, who went 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA last season, could be a fit for Boston, a team in need of a veteran pitcher with postseason experience (he is 14-9, 3.96 in 35 playoff starts). And this would not be the first time the Red Sox have tried to bring Pettitte to Boston. When Pettitte left for the Astros in 2004, the Red Sox made him an offer. According to reports, Pettitte has considered Joe Torre and the Dodgers if the Yankees choose to not match the $16 million Pettitte was paid last year. The Yankees, who did not offer Pettitte arbitration, felt they could bring Pettitte back for less money. But the lefty has said he wants to make the same amount he did last season, and was hopeful he would be re-signed by the Yankees before the Winter Meetings end this week. - Matt Ferguson (link)
