Here's a breakdown of the 1st round of the MLB Playoffs, which is set to begin today.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox
Pitching: Tampa's starting rotation—Kazmir, Shields, and Garza— is stronger. However, with Troy Percival possibly missing this series, the pressure is on the Rays' bullpen to deliver. Dan Wheeler will most likely get the nod as closer. Rays still get the upper-hand here.
Advantage: Rays
Offense: The Sox have a more potent offense, with Dye, Thome, and Griffey. The loss of Carlos Quentin hurts. The Rays will rely on Longoria and Pena to pick up the load.
Advantage: White Sox
Defense: Upton and Crawford can cover a lot of ground in the OF. Longoria is a future Gold Glover at third. Navarro is stellar behind the plate.
Advantage: Rays
Manager: Maddon is a "rookie," but he knows the game. He will get his team to play hard. Guillen has been here before though and knows what it takes to win in the playoffs.
