In the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, Bryan Burwell writes "in Game 7 in the new Boston Garden, that tension produced a contest of historic proportions. It brought back memories of a breathtaking duel 20 years ago between Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins, when the two future Hall of Famers combined to score 81 points and put on one of the most legendary shootouts in NBA history. In Sunday's Game 7, it was Boston's Paul Pierce (41 points) in the role of Bird and Cleveland's LeBron James (45) as 'Nique in the Celtics' 97-92 victory that sent them into tonight's Eastern Conference finals against the Detroit Pistons."
