Okay we all know the UCLA Bruins decided to show the nation that they can score, but can the North Carolina Tar Heels be stopped? The Heels again won by double digits with a 21 point victory over the Washington State Cougars in the Sweet 16. UNC improved to 24-1 in NCAA games played in North Carolina, with their only loss coming on black Sunday in which both Duke and North Carolina lost on the same day. The ACC Champs took a big lead at the half and put it on the Cougars defensively holding them to 31% from the field and 12% from the three point line. Surprising from a team with four seniors and one junior averaging double figures in points. This was the first time in this years' tourney that North Carolina didn't score 100 points but they didn't need to. UNC was paced by junior Tyler Hansbrough who had 18 points and nine rebounds.
