Needing breaks, Reds push harder

The Reds, this year's sleeper pick by some, have started the season a game behind last year's laggard pace. The bats are slumping, aces are losing, but it is only a matter of time, Dusty Baker believes, that the team plays up to its capabilities.

While watching Edinson Volquez dominate the Cubs on Wednesday (7 IP, 4 H, 10K) I couldn't help but think back to 2003. Big Winners: Edinson Volquez, Joey Votto, and the Cincinnati Reds: Votto had his best game as a major leaguer after belting 3 of the Reds 7 homeruns against the Cubs, and Volquez improved to 5-1 with a miniscule 1.06 ERA, and leads all of baseball with 52 strikeouts.
