With the Giants visiting the Eagles on Sunday, hours before the Yankees take on the Phillies in Game 3 of the Fall Classic, this will be the third time that the World Series combatants’ civic counterparts have squared off on an NFL gridiron on the same day.
The last time that NFL teams from World Series cities faced off on the same day as a Fall Classic game was October 12, 1975, when the Cincinnati Bengals beat the visiting New England Patriots, 27-10, and the Reds won Game 2 of the World Series, 3-2, at Fenway Park. The Reds went on to win the World Series in seven games, surviving in spite of Carlton Fisk’s winning homer in Game 6.
