The Knicks have to build towards the 2010 free agent frenzy, when the biggest names in the NBA will become available.
LeBron James has the ability to make the Knicks, a franchise that has become the laughingstock of the NBA, a respected franchise and once again relevant in the city of New York. Unlike the Brett Favre trade, the addition of LeBron James can lead the team to a conference title and a championship.
This would be comparable in importance to the selection of Patrick Ewing 1985 NBA Draft.
However, before that can happen, the Knicks have major retooling to do—and a few lumps to swallow. The first task is to create a lineupm, with a focus on developing players for the future and worrying less about winning games. I know this is not something you can do in New York, but Isiah Thomas has put the Knicks in that situation.
Mike D'Antoni was a hire I didn't agree with, but he can turn the Knicks into an offensive juggernaut.
I would have preferred Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy ...
