New York Rangers: Heatley Dealt to Edmonton

The New York Rangers are going to need to find their sniper elsewhere. The Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a trade that would send all-star forward Dany Heatley west in exchange for forwards Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner, and defenseman Ladislav Smid.  Heatley, who has a no-move clause, vetoed a trade to Edmonton earlier in the week but has apparently accepted this time around.  It is unclear how hard the Rangers were pursuing Heatley, though many speculated a deal was on the horizon after Scott Gomez was dealt to Montreal.  With Heatley now off the market, and with significantly more cap space, the Rangers are believed to be interested in Minnesota Wild free agent winger Marion Gaborik. Gaborik, who was hurt much of last year, will command a long-term contract once free agency begins at midnight.   (link)
