Newest Ranger has some story

 
While Aaron Voros’ stats might not jump off the page (other than that whopping penalty-minutes total, that is), he’s got a pretty noteworthy back story. The strapping, 26-year-old left winger whom the Rangers just signed as an unrestricted free agent thought his life was in danger five years ago. After the second game of his sophomore season at Alaska-Fairbanks, doctors discovered a baseball-sized lump behind his left knee. After an MRI, three doctors diagnosed it as a type of malignant bone cancer. Fortunately, three subsequent biopsies revealed the tumor to be benign. Still, he required several operations during which he had part of his femur removed. He suffered a staph infection and had to have a line inserted into his heart for eight weeks. Upon finally winning a regular NHL job with the Wild this past season (he scored seven goals with seven assists and those 141 penalty minutes in 55 games), Voros was voted the team’s Masterton Trophy candidate by the ...
