When the Yankees were chasing after then free agent CC Sabathia, many people called him to persuade him it was in his interest to move to the Bronx.
Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson, and even LeBron James talked to the pitcher to tell him about New York. Brian Cashman even went to Las Vegas and San Fransisco to try to convince him. But Kenny Lofton, according to the Post , was there to remind him of the downside of New York.
Lofton has a distaste of New York since some 83 games he spent there in 2004.
“He painted a bad picture of New York and the Yankees,” a source told the Post . “A lot of negative things.”
I can’t imagine exactly what Lofton told him since it seemed like most of his problems were actually with Joe Torre. Whatever he said couldn’t get him to ignore the $161 million pile of cash in front of him.
