Observations from Subway Series

 
After going to the Mets-Yankees game today, I have a few questions, and a couple of observations… What was Joba Chamberlain doing in that game? The obivous answer is that Joe Girardi was trying to hold the Yankees’ deficit at two runs, but this was just the second time in his short career that Chamberlain has been used with the Yankees worse than one run down — the other was when he came back from tending to his ill father and got into a 6-0 loss in Baltimore. Why give the Mets their first live look at Chamberlain in this situation when LaTroy Hawkins is warmed and ready, the odds of winning the game are low and you’ve still got five games against the Mets? Where was Derek Jeter going on that ill-fated attempted double? With that play unfolding in front of him as a baserunner, he’s got to be aware of how desperately the Yankees need baserunners, and to get thrown out by as much as he did was lunacy.
