With today’s acquisition of center Tyson Chandler from the New Orleans Hornets, the Oklahoma City Thunder have taken another major step toward the future.
The Hornets wanted to deal Chandler away for financial reasons. In making this move, they ridded themselves of the $12.3 million Chandler was due next year and $13.2 the following season. This will help them stay under the luxury tax and salary cap.
The Thunder are already significantly below the cap and can afford to take on Chandler’s salary.
In making this trade, they add a 7' defensive anchor to a young core that includes Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Russell Westbrook. Oklahoma City has reason to be excited about an already bright future that just got even brighter.
