UPDATE 12:43 p.m.: 1050 ESPN radio is reporting that Buster Olney says that the Yankees and Pettitte have come to terms on a one-year deal. The deal would be worth around a $6 million base salary, and could go up to $12 million with incentives. He also says the deal could get done as early as today. How about some non-Torre's book news? From Jon Heyman :
The Yankees are in serious talks with Andy Pettitte , and there is a lot of optimism a deal will get done, SI.com has learned. Both sides are working hard to push through a one-year contract. Indications are that Pettitte will receive less guaranteed money than the $10 million the Yankees originally had on the table for two months before he turned it down.
The last time Heyman said the Yankees were in serious discussions with someone was a few hours before they signed Mark Teixeira.
