Opening Day Half a World Away

 
     Something just isn’t right when the very first game of the 2008 baseball season, the same game that for the longest time (and still in my mind) is America’s pastime, is opened in a country clean on the other side of the world.  I know this isn’t the first time that the baseball season has opened up in Japan.  It’s been going on for the past several years.         With the popularity of baseball in Japan and Japanese baseball players beginning to catch the eye of MLB scouts and becoming more prevalent on major league teams, it really is a good idea to have some games played there.  It provides for an opportunity to display the talent of our players while hopefully drawing more Japanese players to play in the majors and more fans to the game.         So, my argument is not so much against the fact games are being played there, it’s the fact it’s the opening game of ...
