Packers' site mistakenly says Favre retires

Brett Favre's retirement lore is becoming almost as popular as his on-the-field heroics. On Thursday, the Packers' official Web site briefly reported he was retiring, but the page under the breaking news section was live for only a few minutes. "There's nothing to it," Packers spokesman Jeff Blumb told The Associated Press. "People who handle our Web site had set up a dummy page in the event he was to retire. They were asked to take down that page. [link]

The Packers official site had a page up saying Favre was retiring. Now that page is gone. The Football Wire has a screen shot of the site, however. Check it out and see for yourself. No explanation has been given for the "error".

At around 1pm, PFT and C-Mottram at TSB saw that Packers.com had a story up with the title "Breaking News: Favre to Retire". The story had no words, just a title and a photo, and it has since been taken down. But screengrabs exist, so let's go to the video tape, er photo..... Well Wisconsin's WTJM just spoke with Packers PR and this is their response..... A Packers spokesman tells Newsradio...

A link on the Packers' Web site that led to a page that declared quarterback Brett Favre was retiring appeared briefly, but according to Favre's agent, James (Bus) Cook, Favre hasn't made a decision on his future yet.
