Packing for Vegas: College Basketball Picks Jan. 6

 
  After winning my only play yesterday, I'm trying to start a hot streak by taking three games today. Two of my plays come from the Big East. I like UConn +3 at West Virginia. That's right, I'm backing an underdog! Both of these teams have what it takes for a serious Tourney run, but most agree that UConn is the more talented team. I don't see them dropping to 1-2 in conference play, and expect a win in a tough road game tonight. I also like Villanova giving 6.5 at Seton Hall. The Hall has lost both of its conference games by an average of 25 points, including a 26-point loss at home to WVU on Saturday. 'Nova is comparable to the Mounties, so I expect a double-digit victory by the 'Cats. My play of the day, however, is Purdue -2.5 at Penn State. I actually think this Nittany Lion squad will surprise some people this season (they already have, I suppose, by winning at Georgia Tech). However, in my opinion, the difference in this game will be defense. I look for Chris Kramer to slow down ... (link)
