Jake Peavy struck out 10 in seven strong innings and Scott Hairston hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth to help the San Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 on Sunday. Hairston hit a 2-0 pitch from reliever John Grabow (5-3) into the left-field bleachers for his 17th home run of the season, the third in his last six games.
