The city was excited, the fans were ready, and the team was set to play. Unfortunately for the Pittsburgh Penguins, it did not go much past that.
They started off the year as well as everyone assumed they would. A quarter way through the year, Malkin and Crosby were first and second in points.
But injuries hit and so did the opposing teams.
Mellon Arena soon began to get used to the silence of the siren. Crosby kept getting hurt, and the surrounding cast could not pull through. They are now on the brink of a bad year.
One year removed from near greatness, the Penguins are looking for something to bring them back to the promised land.
With a fairly easy schedule ahead of them, Pittsburgh is looking to shock the world again.
