Phillies, OF Werth agree to $1.7M deal (AP)

 
Jayson Werth and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a $1.7 million, one-year contract on Monday, avoiding arbitration. The 27-year-old Werth hit .298 with eight home runs and 49 RBIs last season for the Phillies. He started 63 games, seeing most of his action in right field while platooning with Shane Victorino.
