Posada has bruised left thumb

 
With the Yankees starting a set of four straight day games against Toronto today, Jorge Posada's night off would not have been unusual. But Joe Girardi said Posada's left thumb was sore after he took a foul tip directly off it Wednesday. "It just makes sense to give him today off," he said. "His thumb is bruised a little bit."
