Precious metals don't mean precious medals

 
Rasmussen has published a new poll which shows that 53% of adults in America believe it is important for the U.S.to win the most medals in the Olympics. Of those polled, 19% believe it is “very important.” This just confirms what I have always believed: The American revolution was a bad idea, because democracy doesn’t work. Votes in the hands of these surveyed voters cannot be taken seriously, and should not be counted in presidential elections. Not only is it unimportant for Americans to win the most medals in the Olympics, it is arguably important for them not to win the most. People of the world hate monopolistic winners. Look at what happened to the sport of softball. The U.S. has won every gold medal in the sport’s brief history, and so the International Olympic Committee decided to dump the event starting in 2012. This isn’t fair, because softball happens to be a worthy and relatively watchable event by the low standards of the Summer Games. But it is ... (link)
