President Bush welcomes Giants to White House

There is something surreal and unnatural about standing outside the West Wing, a short Eli Manning pass from the Oval Office, surrounded by White House correspondents who are surrounding a makeshift podium and microphones. Then the doors open, the Secret Service scurries and out walks … Shaun O’Hara? That’s the kind of weird day today was, as I had the pleasure to cover the Giants being honored at the White House by President George W. Bush. Some day I’ll be able to tell my daughter that I stood on the South Lawn of the White House and watched Barney the presidential dog attack a big white ball that had the audacity to roll into a bush (not a Bush). Bush addressed the team and an overflow crowd on his lawn after the Giants emerged from what I think was the Yellow Oval Room, walked across the Truman Balcony and descended down the stairs on either side of the President’s podium.
