THE GAME: San Francisco 49ers (2-4) at the defending Super Bowl champion Giants (4-1), 1 p.m., Fox
WHAT IT MEANS: Redemption. A national TV audience got to hear the Cleveland crowd chant “over-rated” at the Giants, and they got to see plenty of evidence that the fans were right. They gave up 454 yards to the worst offense in football? Couldn’t touch the QB? Couldn’t force a punt? And Eli Manning got picked three times? Ugh. It’s fair to say the Giants can’t wait for kickoff so they can show everyone that the game was an aberration, not a trend. … For the 49ers, they need to right their ship soon because 2-5 would mean they probably can only afford two losses in their final nine games if they want even a slim hope of making the playoffs.
