In the sixth round (No. 171 overall), the Jets picked Kansas WR Marcus Henry, a rangy, long-limbed possession receiver.
Based on his production, he should’ve been a much higher pick. Check out his numbers last season: 54 catches, 1,014 yards, 10 TDs, 18.8 average. Not bad, right?
So why did he last until the sixth round? Because scouts and personnel types are beholden to their stopwatches, and Henry doesn’t have great speed. He’s barely under 4.6 in the 40, so he’s not going to blow by too many defensive backs. But at 6-3 1/2, 207, he can outmuscle and outjump defenders, especially in the red zone.
A late-round rookie couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than the Jets. After Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith, it’s wide open at the position. Henry should challenge for the fourth or fifth spot, especially if he’s any good on special teams.
The Jets have one pick left, a seventh-rounder? A thousand bucks to anyone who guesses it. ...
