The Texas Rangers hired former manager Jerry Narron as a consultant Monday. Narron managed the Rangers from May 2001 through the end of the 2002 season, when he was replaced by Buck Showalter. Most recently, he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds for two years before being fired in July. The 52-year-old Narron will be a scout and fill other roles in the baseball operations department.

Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez, who was limited to pinch-hitting duties during the final two weeks of last season due to a bone bruise in his left knee, will undergo an MRI on the knee Monday night to determine if he has suffered any structural damage.
